Wicked the Musical is one of the most successful and highly acclaimed musicals in the world today. It continues to be the top grossing show on Broadway. The story is based from Gregory Maguire’s novel where he talks about the history behind the witches of Oz. The show is completely family friendly and packed with lots of entertainment. It is most popular with little girls who love the characters’ extravagant costumes, realistic makeup and outstanding performances.

The show is jam packed with classic hits such as The Wizard and I, For Good, Popular and the crowd favorite, Defying Gravity. The musical follows the story of social and political agendas under the Wizard’s rule in Oz just before Dorothy arrived. Elphaba, also called the Wicked Witch of the West, is very compassionate about taking care of the underprivileged citizens in the magical land of Oz. Glinda, also called the Good Witch of the North is not really as good as she seems. Wicked the Musical has celebrated their 10 year anniversary last 2013. It is now their 13th anniversary this year.

The musical is a broadway masterpiece which will leave its fans and audiences craving for more. The plot talks about what it’s like to live in Oz from a different perspective. Years before Dorothy has set foot in the Land of Oz, there was another young girl who was born with an exceptionally unique appearance. She had emerald green skin and was often misunderstood by the people around her. She was very intelligent and she had a feisty personality. Her name was Elphaba and she had an extraordinary talent. The musical is focused on her relationship with Glinda who is a blonde, beautiful and girl who had a bubbly personality. They began as rivals but they soon became the unlikeliest of friends. Glinda was referred to as Glinda the Good one while Elphaba was called Wicked.

All the lead characters in the musical performed with incredible vocal prowess. They make the characters come alive with their superb portrayals. It doesn’t feel like the musical is an act, it feels real and magical. Elphaba looks very innocent as she first takes the stage while stumbling. Her most iconic performance is Defying Gravity which she performed exceptionally well. Every line is delivered with impeccable feelings and emotion which makes it more believable. Fans all over the world love Elphaba’s character because she is very relatable.

In the musical, Elphaba experiences life changing events which has led to everyone referring to her as Wicked. She plays the role of a political activist in the musical as she is very passionate about her beliefs. She strives to fight the injustices in the Land of Oz and hopes to undo the mistakes of the past. Wicked the Musical is filled with personal tragedies and dark secrets which tells the history of Oz. It is the perfect homage to the original Wizard of Oz while allowing fans to understand its story from a different perspective.
